Everett nodded, looking over to her again.
"Yeah, about a month ago. Rolled in from out east."
It wasn't entirely a lie, he moved to Metro City from a town up north. His past life, however, lived out east.
"I know my way around the neighborhood, how to get to the park, but I'm still getting used to the streets. I still get a bit lost around the city, gotta check the map app on my phone."
As he spoke, Everett shrugged a bit, finishing the coffee before popping the lid with one hand, managing to pinch it to the lid of the paper cup with his thumb. It was like he had flicked open an oversized zippo, sliding the other cup into it before putting the loose lid into a pocket. He had taken his eyes off of Tori for a bit over a moment, just long enough to do this little maneuver before looking back to her.
"Haven't been in a city this big before, it's a bit overwhelming."
That was the truth, Metro City was something else.

"I know what you mean. Kansas City isn't small by any margin, but even it dwarfs in comparison to Metro City. It's like they've built their own version of New York in Kansas. Not sure how to feel about it."
On one hand it was pretty cool to have a city this big and bursting with life in the state of Kansas. Where only places like Wyandotte and Topeka shined as bright as cities like New York and Los Angeles. On the other it did get harder to know your way around such a big city. Making it easy to get lost. And bigger cities like this one tend to have more crime as well. At least Tori would never run out of work.
"So, where do you go to school at?"

"Oh, I'm not in school right now."
Mvrcvrial felt a growing sense of panic, the realization that they'd come up with this personality, this whole person, but had left out a critical detail. Their mind raced, Everett's calm eyes perfectly concealing Mvrcvrial's growing terror. Everett took the initiative, smiling a bit more confidently, standing up a bit straighter.
"I'm going to be applying to college this year, my plan is to take online courses while working in Metro City."
Mvrcvrial could've laughed, settling back down and relieved at how quickly Everett had improvised. However, they were puzzled. Everett seemed to be committing to this plan, like he had made the decision without his own creator knowing. Mvrcvrial couldn't find words for the emotions they were experiencing. They stepped back, as it were, receding and letting Everett take full control.
"Admittedly, it's been a bit of a hassle. Been weeks since I moved here and I'm still not fully unpacked, so I'm still looking for some documents I need for the online application."

"You a college boy? That's really cool."
Tori didn't know many college boys. Something that a lot of girls in high school wish they could say. There were rumors and such that college kids played harder in the parties and such. Tori wondered if any of those rumors were true. Not that she was looking to get drunk or make out with college boys. As tempting as that latter idea was. She had thought about going to college too, but with Metro City needing a hero she wasn't sure if she could commit.
"I heard KU and K-State are some good colleges, though I don't know if they have online courses."
Tori also liked the KU basketball team the Jayhawks. Wishing that Kansas had their own basketball team in the NBA.
