It was a sunny day out, almost no clouds in the sky. The foliage rustled softly as a breeze danced between the leaves and shook the branches. Everett paused for a moment, reaching a hand out and running his fingers over some leaves as they moved. The air tasted good, carrying the scent of trees, grass, flowers... It was impossible not to relax, to feel at peace. His shoe scuffed against the path he was walking down, he picked up his feet as he walked.
It was hot out, but the breeze was a welcome relief. He walked with his hand still held out, trailing it through the leaves of some bushes a little while longer. As he passed the bush, his hand fell back down to his side, hanging for a while before finding its way into his pocket. He looked up at the sky, taking in the few clouds rolling by before turning his eyes from the glare of the sun and looking ahead again.

Tori decided that today of all days were great for a jog. With her long red hair tied up in a ponytail and dressed in a green sports bra with black gym shorts and red running shoes Tori jogged down the pavement of the city's park with a bottle of water in her left hand.
Every once in a while she would spray the water on her face to cool her off from the heat of the sun. The breeze mixed in with the water on her face kept her cool. She couldn't help but notice some of the boys staring at her. She didn't know if she should be flattered or concerned. A few of them were way older than her and needed to back off.
As Tori came around the corner she noticed a rather cute male she's never seen before. She came to a halt and then bent over to catch her breath. Massaging her knees as she looked up and smiled at the male in question.
"Oh, hello there. How are you?"
Tori straightened her stance and then smiled kindly at the man.

He almost hadn't noticed her talking to him. The athletic wear suited her, it looked quite natural on her. She probably went running fairly regularly, at least Everett briefly assumed so. What surprised him was that she was stopping to talk to him. She was probably just making small talk while catching her breath, Everett figured.
"Mmm?" Everett looked to the girl, His dull brown eyes meeting her vibrant greens. "I'm alright, you?"
She seemed kind enough, and he stopped walking. As Everett turned to face her, he pulled his hand from his pocket and let it rest at his side again. Somehow, it felt rude to him, talking to someone with your hand in your pocket. He gave her a polite smile as he spoke, holding himself stiffly upright.

Tori smiled again. She had to admit the boy was rather cute, but no. That's not why people come to the park, Tori! Or is it? Tori wouldn't really know. She was still a stranger when it came to Metro City as a whole.
"I'm good. Just catching my breath. You'd think with all the running I do I'd be used to it by now."
In truth she did more flying than running these days. Though it's hard for people to run when you can just lift up the ground into a wall and block their path to make it harder to flee. A handy skill to have Tori had to admit.
"I'm Tori. My family just moved to town a couple of weeks ago. What's your name?"

"New to town, huh?"
Everett relaxed a bit. As he did, Mvrcvrial grew a little bit shorter, a little bit leaner, appearing a little bit younger. He tried to keep it imperceptible, but he was still adjusting himself as he spoke with this girl. Still, he kept his guard up. Why would somebody be talking to him like this?
"I'm Everett, and I'm a bit new to the town too. Got here a month ago or so."
It wasn't a lie, per say. Mvrcvrial had developed the Everett Miller personality about five or six weeks ago. They had been in the city much longer. He decided to make a little small talk while this girl caught her breath. Maybe she was just making conversation while she had caught her breath?
"Good run so far?"
It wasn't unpleasant, talking to Tori. Everett felt a bit lighter, the chat was improving his already good day.

"Nice to meet you, Everett."
Tori extended her right hand for a handshake knowing that most people shook hands with their rights and not their lefts. She had used to confuse people by extending her left hand first. She was left handed by nature and glad she didn't live in a time where people would break your fingers for being a leftie.
"Yeah, it was a good run. A little better than my usual runs. Do you run at all?"

"Not all that often, no."
Everett let out a small chuckle. He didn't notice Tori's hand at first, letting hang a few seconds too long before glancing to it.
"oh-"
He took her hand, shaking it gently. His skin was cool to the touch but not clammy.
"Maybe I should, though. Run, I mean. It's good for your health, gets me out of the house regularly..."
Everett glanced behind Tori, thinking he heard someone coming up the path. It had been a pigeon landing nearby, pecking the ground as if looking for something. He looked back to her, still giving a polite smile.

When Tori's hand made skin on skin contact with Everett's she noticed just how cold he was to the touch. A surprising feat given how incredibly hot it has been in the city the past couple of days. Kansas weather was unpredictable in that fashion. It could be cloudy, windy, and cool one minute and then fifteen minutes later the sun will come out and make it burning hot.
"You're a little cold there. Did you just come out of a blizzard?" she joked as she smiled at the boy.
"Yeah, running is good for your health. It keeps me fit. Well, that and a proper diet. I like to stay in shape since I'm part of my school's all girl swimming team."
Tori smiled brightly. She was proud of her swimming prowess. Earning the nickname "The Little Mermaid" which was also her favorite Disney's character.

"Part of the swim team, huh? That's gotta be tough."
Everett didn't respond to the comment about how cold his skin was. Deep down, Mvrcvrial chastised themselves for being so lax as to let their temperature drop like that. Sloppy, damn sloppy. It'd be best keep the conversation on her, they decided. Tori seemed friendly enough, didn't seem to have any ulterior motives, though Everett still felt a bit off, chatting with a stranger.
"I mean- it's competitive, right? You race against teams from other schools?"

Tori nodded her head.
"It can be. I mean, I can get pretty competitive myself when it comes to the competition. When I'm in that water all I care about is winning. It's actually something I'm pretty good at not to honk my own horn or anything. I've taken my old school to the championship a couple of times."
It was going to be awkward however if she ends up facing her old team back from Wyandotte. They had grown a bond all them years being part of the swim team and now she was in a different school in a new city with a new team. But she still had to do right by the team she was in now.
"It's just a wonder I have time for it anymore with everything else I'm doing. Do you play any sports?"
